Teaching, Leading, Belonging
Hi, I’m Idara J. Ekwere — an international mathematics educator and mentor with over 15 years of experience teaching Grades 7–12 across the U.S., India, China, and Kazakhstan. I believe that mathematics is more than numbers; it’s a language of connection, identity, and opportunity. My passion lies in creating inclusive, rigorous, and engaging learning environments where students feel seen, valued, and empowered to succeed.

About
I started my teaching journey in Georgia, U.S., and have since taught in four countries, working with diverse curricula including IB, AP, A-Level, AERO, and Common Core. Currently, I teach secondary mathematics at the American School of Bombay, where I also serve as a Grade Level Leader, mentor teachers through our Teacher Academy, and lead curriculum alignment projects.

As I pursue my Doctor of Education in Curriculum & Instruction, my research focuses on belonging, culturally responsive teaching, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL). These priorities guide my philosophy: when students and teachers feel included and supported, learning thrives.

Experience
Learner
I believe that learning never stops. I am passionate about exploring new techniques, methods, and strategies in education, and I approach each opportunity as a chance to grow. As educators, our continuous learning not only strengthens our own practice but also enriches the entire school community.
Educator
As an educator, I strive to build meaningful connections with my students. I believe that when learners feel safe and supported, they are more open to growth, exploration, and success in the classroom.
Mentor
When supporting other local teachers through the ASB Teachers Academy or my colleagues through our Peer Coaching program, I strive to make the experience truly collaborative—one where both educators share their knowledge, insights, and expertise to grow together.
Curriculum Designer
While every teacher engages in curriculum design, I have been fortunate to work at a school where I was given the opportunity to support our Curriculum Coordinator in strengthening both vertical and horizontal alignment of the middle school math curriculum. This work was especially meaningful to me, as I believe that when there is a clear and coherent learning pathway, both students and teachers are able to progress with greater purpose and success.
